Firemen were able to stop the fire's spread around 3:00 a.m. on June 26 along Derby and Front Streets. Some sources indicate that multiple-story buildings, such as the brick building in the photograph, helped to slow the fire's spread so that enough water could be used to stop the fire. Image also depicts the Custom House, identified by the eagle on the roof.
