The Phillips Library holds several panoramic images of the fire damage. this segment is from one such image taken by Rankins and Ward, photographers from Lynn, Massachusetts. The train on the tracks was one of the many relief trains that arrived in Salem after the fire; the debris on the track is the remains of several Pullman cars that could not be moved out of the way of the conflagration. Houses that were destroyed by the fire were eventually dynamited to remove the portions of homes that were not fully destroyed; the debris to the left of the tracks depicts that process. The ruins of a shoe factory can be seen in the center of the image.
