Valentine depicts a mother, dressed in a pink and green kimono, holding out her hands in exasperation to her two children, also dressed in kimonos, who are looking at a broken paper lantern. The children are sitting in front of a window displaying two hanging paper lanterns. Card opens to read text entitled, "To Greet You With Love." Text reads: Of all sweet lasses, great and small,/There is but one for whom I pine;/Tis you, the sweetest of them all,/I've chosen for my Valentine. The title and the first word in each line of the text are printed with a red initial capital letter. The name "H.M. Burnside" is printed below the text.
