Hundreds of trees were burned during the conflagration. Before trees could be removed from the ruins, they needed to be cut into smaller segments. This image depicts the Shade Department staff preparing trees for removal on the corner of Broad and Hathorne Streets. During reconstruction more than 750 trees were replanted, which included maples, elms, sycamores, poplars, lindens, and pin oaks.
