Evacuation Preparation - Resident Preparing to Evacuate, Chestnut Street
When the fire originally started, winds were blowing west to northwest. As the fire spread south and southeast through the city, the residents of Chestnut Street prepared to evacuate, as shown in this image. After the winds changed direction, this historic district of Salem was spared from damage.
