Hospital Corps, Detachment of the Second Corps Cadets
Due to military training at the Service School in West Newbury, much of the militia was unavailble when the call for military help was made. The Hospital Corps detachment of the Second Corps Cadets was one of the first groups to arrive and provide assistance. They helped firemen with smoke-filled lungs and assisted policemen, other members of the militia, and the general populace during the fire.
