This image depicts the redevelopment of the Congress Street section of Salem. The street was widenend to 80 feet from its original 40 feet. The Congress Street Bridge, crossing the South River, and the George W. Pickering Coal Company can be seen in the upper right corner of the image. The Congress Street Bridge was designed by George Ashton, City Engineer.
