Forty days after the fire, the Salem Rebuilding Commission published a new building code for the burnt district; eventually new codes were also created for the entire city. The building codes for the burnt district were a bit less strict to encourage rebuilding by those who had lost their homes. In 1915, the Salem Chamber of Commerce published a poster publicizing the progress made in reconstruction.
