This aerial view of the devestation caused by the fire was photographed by George T. Murray, a staff photographer of the Boston Journal. This aerial photograph is the first known instance of newspapers using such images as illustrations for news articles. The Naumkeag Steam Cotton Company can be seen in the upper right corner of the image.
