Biographical Sketch

Daniel Walker Lord was born in 1800, to Nathaniel (1776-1815) and Phoebe (1781-1864) Lord of Kennebunk, Maine. Nathaniel Lord was a maritime businessman. Daniel followed in his father's footsteps and in 1819, he entered into a partnership and became involved in the West Indies trade. As his business interests grew, Daniel moved to Boston, where he built numerous vessels, and had varying degrees of ownership in many ships. In 1826 he was elected to the state legislature, where he served for several years, eventually becoming a member of the Governor's council. He was a member of the board of trustees for Bowdoin College.

In 1824 Daniel married Lydia Abbot. Lydia died in 1851, and in 1853, Daniel married Lydia Patterson, who was the daughter of Captain Acton Patterson of Kennebunkport, Maine. Daniel died in Malden, Massachusetts on September 4, 1880 (Coll. 140).
