Historical Sketch

The Salem Relief Committee was organized in 1873 as a society to aid the poor in Salem. It was incorporated in 1911. By an act of the Supreme Court, the Society was disbanded in 1949. A trust fund, to continue to assist the poor in Salem, was established from the remaining monies. The fund is currently under the jurisdiction of the Samaritan Society.
