The Barnabas C. Knox papers contain ships papers from vessels on which Barnabas C. Knox (died 1806) and Joseph S. B. Knox worked and other papers. This collection has been divided into two series.
Series I. Ships Papers contain papers from
individual vessels that Barnabas C. Knox (died 1806) and Joseph S. B. Knox worked
on. These papers include accounts, instructions, and related correspondence.
Series II. Other contains information on the Barnabas
C. Knox (1808-1894)s familys genealogy and papers about the estate of Mary Knoxs
estate, Barnabas (1808-1894) wife. This series also contains correspondence, most
of which is from Joseph S. B. Knox.
Biographical Sketch
Barnabas C. Knox was a sea captain. He died at sea on board the brig Orlando on September 28, 1806.
Joseph S. B. Knox was born to Robert Knox of
Charlestown, Massachusetts. Joseph was a ship master on the ships Charles, Inez, Morea, and Saracen. He was
active in the early to mid-nineteenth century. His relationship to Barnabas C. Knox
(died 1806) is unclear.
Barnabas C. Knox was born on September 8, 1808 to
Thomas Knox. He had three brothers: Thomas (1803-1858), Adam (born 1805), and John
H. (1811-1817). His wifes name was Mary; after her death, he became the
administrator of her estate. Barnabas was a farmer. His connection to Barnabas C.
Knox (died 1806) or Joseph S. B. Knox is not known. Barnabas died in 1894.
