The Charles H. Hammatt journal is a photocopy of a journal that was kept by Hammatt about a stay in the Sandwich Islands that took place from May 6, 1823 to June 9, 1825, while he was acting as an agent for the firm of Bryant and Sturgis. The original journal is located at the Baker Library at Harvard Business School; the photocopy was made for the Peabody Museum.


Biographical Sketch

Charles H. Hammatt was an agent from Boston, Massachusetts, who worked for the firm Bryant and Sturgis, as a representative in Hawaii. Bryant and Sturgis was one of the major New England firms involved in the fur and sandalwood trade centered in Honolulu.
