1Fifteen letters from Mary Peabody Foster Barnes to her husband, Charles. The content of these letters deals largely with domestic issues. Mr. Barnes was living in Webster, Massachusetts, working at a manufacturing plant. She frequently asked advice regarding home improvements, paying bills, etc., and gave general news from home. There are a few comments regarding conditions generated by the Civil War centering on the scarcity of specie and the drastic increase in costs and taxes.1862-1863
2Three letters from Sarah Foster Barnes to her father and three letters from Charles Henry Barnes to his father, all posted from North Andover; and one letter from Charles Henry to his mother, posted from Webster, where he was visiting with his father. The letters from North Andover are largely homey, inquiring when their father was coming home for a visit. In the Webster letter, Charles Henry, stated his fondness for Webster and expressed a desire to live there.1862
